With shared universes and expansive sagas, jumping into a comic can be difficult if you didn’t enter on the ground floor. Sometimes, you want a self-contained yarn that you can jump in at any time. Skybound, Robert Kirkman‘s (Invincible, The Walking Dead) publisher within Image Comics, has heard you.
The publisher has created a new imprint focusing on new reader-friendly comics called Skybound Visions. Featuring a range of characters available to Skybound, these approachable comics are perfect for those new to comics or who want a self-contained read.
This guide details everything you need to know about Skybound Visions. Read on to learn more about the publisher’s approach to these comics, their unique production quality, and which comics are part of the line.
New reader-friendly comics
The Skybound Visions comics are standalone adventures that don’t require any background reading. Each title exists in its own little continuity and doesn’t cross over into any shared canon. Additionally, none of the Skybound Visions comics will be connected either.
You won’t need to follow the Energon Universe (Skybound’s shared Hasbro/Transformers/G.I. Joe comics universe) for the Transformers and G.I. Joe stories, nor will you need to know anything about Turok to enjoy it. No prior knowledge is required.
Speaking to the Comic Book Club podcast, Sean Mackiewicz, Skybound Senior Vice President and Publisher, reiterated that these comics will be standalone stories. Readers will get a definitive, high-concept tale starring a mix of characters you may or may not know. Once the miniseries are complete, you’ll get a satisfying ending that won’t be part of some larger saga.
Printed on newsprint
The Skybound Visions comics line will be printed on deluxe newsprint instead of the glossy paper modern comics often possess.
This isn’t the first time that Skybound has opted for newsprint. When the publisher put together the G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero compendiums, they chose newsprint to capture the comics’ original feel, which were first published in the 1980s when newsprint was the norm.
Inspired by that process, Sean Mackiewicz decided to do a whole line of comics in newsprint. For some readers, it may be nostalgic, harkening back to a time when it was easier to pick up a comic and enjoy it.
Trade paperback collections will also be printed on deluxe newsprint paper.

Turok: Son of Stone #1 will be available 10th March, 2027.
Future Skybound Visions comics
The initial three Skybound Visions comics are just the beginning. Sean Mackiewicz mentioned on the Comic Book Club podcast that Skybound has the first 18 months of comics already mapped out.
When one miniseries ends, another series focused on a different character will replace it. This keeps the line fresh, with always something new to look forward to.
This guide will be updated whenever Skybound announces a new Skybound Visions series.
