I knew that I knew that, of the four beers in the local Raglan Road-exclusive flight, Tri Wishes immediately jumped out at me.
Not for any particular Irish reason, but knowing it had been brewed by Winter Garden’s Crooked Can Brewing it seems like I might have had this before.
And I have had it before, on tap at the Crooked Can Tap Room in Winter Garden itself.
In fact, if you look all those years ago, I have an article about it, detailing the Irish brewery it was brewed in collaboration with and the event at Raglan Road it was brewed for.
Unfortunately, post Covid, that Irish brewery is no longer an operation. The event, The Great Irish Hooley, is still around and was held last month.
But Tri Wishes endures, inspired by the triskele, the triple circled luck charm created in Neolithic Ireland over 5,000 years ago and prominently featured in the Raglan Road logo.
Nevertheless, Tri Wishes (Irish Red Ale, 5.5% ABV) maintains a presence on the tap list.
It has a nice caramel color with a heady, bready, malty nose. Think about a Marzen. The flavor is very much like it, with deep roasted toffee and an earthy hop backbone that is present but never excessive.
Even if it is not triathlon inspired as I had originally thought (which makes a lot of sense for Winter Garden), the beer is still fantastic and a little bit different than what I had expected to come out of an offering for an Irish pub.
There must be a luck with the beer, as its longevity and continued presence at Raglan Road will dictate.
