Chai Hot Cocoa Mix

Warning: This is not a frugal recipe 😦

I am not sure if you drink tea, but if you do then you might know what chai is, and how amazing it smells. I love the flavors in this type of tea, and it is good hot or iced. You might think this strange, but I love a mix of good chai and hot cocoa. I find the flavor pleasing.

This is a super easy recipe with just two ingredients. I got the chai mix I think through thrive market, and the cocoa mix through ChocZero. These are certainly more expensive than I want, but a girl has to be able to have a treat here and there and the monk fruit sweetened items are better for me than sugar-laden ones. You can make any of either mix that you want to cut costs. I may at some point make my own hot cocoa and chai mixes. You could do the same. It would certainly save money to do so.

Your ratios can be different than mine, but this is how I made it on Sunday. I like to store mine in a quart size canning jar.

Chai Hot Cocoa Mix

Makes: 1 quart

Ingredients:

1/2 quart of hot cocoa mix

1/2 quart of chai mix

  1. Fill the jar with the mixes, leaving a little headspace.
  2. Cover and shake well to combine.
  3. To make hot cocoa, put about 2 tablespoons of mix, or more or less according to what you like, into the bottom of a large mug, add hot water, and stir.

Notes:

  • I actually think it would be easy to make the hot cocoa mix using baker’s cocoa or cacao powder, monk fruit or another sweetener, and some organic coconut milk powder. I may try this when cold weather comes around again.
  • Marshmallows are so good in this. I get mine from ChocZero, but you could use the store-bought kind if you aren’t on any particular diet.
  • I also have found different syrups through ChocZero: Vanilla, chocolate, caramel, and white chocolate. Sadly, when I went to reorder, they didn’t have the chocolate and caramel ones that I wanted.

Do you have a healthy version of a hot cocoa or chai mix you could share? Something without real sugar. I am sure we would all like to see the recipe.
