Sundays are my cooking day. I prepare for the coming week on this day. I make work meals, be sure foods are being stored properly to last the week, update my spice shelf and make sure I have plenty of meals and snacks to last until at least Wednesday or Thursday. It’s a busy day, as I am also cleaning my space, being sure laundry and other tasks are done before my busy week starts. I have a routine.
This week I needed make some spice mixes. Taco seasoning was a must for the weeks’ meals. and I decided, while I was at it, I might as well replenish my chili seasoning mix as well.
I go through chili powder like you wouldn’t believe. Those little jars of spices are getting costly, and I hate spending that much. I need to re-up again after making these seasoning mixes and am looking for sources for the spices and herbs I won’t be able to grow. I would like to buy a pound a time, I think. Maybe save a few dollars overall on them. I hope this is possible. If you have a source for these seasonings, please share! Organic is a must.
I’m not sure if my seasoning is the same as everyone else’s. I might not like all the same things (I am kinda picky) and have spent time tweaking this recipe to meet my own needs. It makes for tasty tacos!
I prefer this seasoning mix over store-bought because I know it is all organic, and there are no fillers. It tastes really good! I can taste the difference between organic and non-organic seasonings, and organic is far better.
Taco Seasoning
Servings: approximately 6, 2.5 tbsp servings
Ingredients
6 tbsp chili powder
6 tsp cumin
6 tsp garlic powder
3 tsp paprika
6 tsp oregano
6 tsp parsley
1.5 tsp sea salt
1.5 tsp black pepper
- Measure all the seasonings into a jar.
- Shake to mix.
- Label and put on a shelf.
- When making tacos, use 2.5 tbsp for your ground beef.
Notes
- Grown the herbs on a windowsill to save money on the herbs.
- Walmart usually has organic potted herbs in the produce section for just under $3.00 in my area this time of year. You could buy these affordably, let them grow more, harvest and hang to dry. This would save you a little money over time.
This is super easy! It doesn’t take long to put this mix together and is easy to grab and use when needed.
