The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Men’s Senior Selection Committee has named the Indian team for the three-match ODI series with the West Indies, which will start from September 27th. Some players, such as Shreyas Iyer, who were part of the previous series with England, have not been selected in this 15-member team that is headed by Shubman Gill. Some players like Aaqib Nabi and Naman Dheer have been selected for this team, and they may get an opportunity to make their debut. However, the major doubt is regarding the exclusion of some star pacers like Jasprit Bumrah, Ishan Kishan, and Iyer.
The ODI series between India and West Indies will commence on September 27th, with the third ODI being scheduled on October 3rd. This will be a home series, with the West Indies touring India. At the same time, the Asian Games 2026 will take place in Japan, where Team India will make its debut on September 28th, with the Asian Games final taking place on October 3rd.
Shreyas Iyer, Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, Shivam Dubey, Ishan Kishan, and Arshdeep Singh have been selected for the Asian Games, which will depart for Japan on September 18th. Consequently, these players have not been selected for the ODI series against the West Indies. The selectors have also omitted Prince Yadav and Harsh Dubey, both of whom were not part of the Asian Games squad.
Some players who were out of the squad due to the Asian Games and the unavailability of several key players for the West Indies series have been able to return. These include Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mohammed Siraj, and Dhruv Jurel. They were not included in the squad for the previous three-match ODI series against England. Punjab batsman Naman Dhir and Jammu and Kashmir pacer Aaqib Nabi have also been included in the squad.
