There is some good news regarding the security measures for people traveling on the highways and expressways of the nation. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is planning something big for the purpose of ensuring better security measures on the highways and expressways of the country. As per the plan, a network of advanced cameras would be installed every 30 kilometers in order to prevent any road accidents and take strong actions against the traffic offenders.
As per the plan of the ministry, Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS) would be installed at the highways and expressways of the country. In order to improve the level of security and surveillance, the cameras of the latest era would be installed every 30 kilometers.
These cameras would have ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) technology as well as artificial intelligence (AI). The AI-based video incident detection system will enable immediate detection of road accidents or other emergencies, reducing the time required for relief and rescue operations.
Since this is a large-scale project, its funding model is currently under consideration. In the initial phase of the project, separate control rooms will be established at state headquarters. These control rooms will be jointly staffed by officials from the National Highways Authority of India and relevant state government agencies. This will ensure that there will be no delays in action, and immediate action can be taken at the central or state level, depending on jurisdiction.
