Hiring in the hospitals and healthcare sector fell 12.1% year over year in August, one of the steepest declines of any industry in the report, according to LinkedIn.
The LinkedIn Workforce Report, published Sept. 18, measures hiring through LinkedIn’s hiring rate. That rate is the number of U.S. members who added a new employer to their profile in the same month the job began, divided by total U.S. membership.
Healthcare hiring ticked up 1.2% from July to August, according to LinkedIn. Only education saw a larger annual decline, at 12.4%. Holding companies also fell 12.1%.
Across all industries, U.S. hiring rose 1.9% from July to August but was 6.5% lower than in August 2025. LinkedIn’s hiring rate is down 6% since the start of the year and remains 25% below its February 2020 pace.
