Residents of several neighbourhoods told the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) that boundary walls around older colonies are blocking access to nearby plots and roads. They raised the issue at HYDRAA’s Prajavani grievance meeting on Monday.
Residents said the walls were built when few settlements existed nearby and did not then restrict access. New layouts and residential areas have since come up around the colonies, they said. Complainants alleged that people who built the walls had refused to remove them, despite rules against blocking access roads.
Residents of Prajay Gulmohar Colony in Kuntloor village, Hayathnagar mandal, said they could not reach their plots because a boundary wall in a neighbouring colony remained in place. The area is in Ranga Reddy district.
Representatives of the Tellapur G Block Plot Owners Association said a layout covering 85.20 acres and containing 596 plots was developed in Ramachandrapuram mandal, Sangareddy district. They alleged that roads and parks covering about 11 acres had been encroached upon and sought HYDRAA’s intervention to restore the roads.
A resident of Sri Ram Nagar Colony in Serilingampally mandal, Ranga Reddy district, alleged that villa owners had encroached on roads and blocked access to his plot.
Residents of AGS Layout in Medchal complained that industrial wastewater was entering the layout. They alleged that obstructions in a canal had disrupted water flow, causing chemical wastewater to overflow into nearby residential areas.
HYDRAA received a total of 42 complaints during Monday’s Prajavani programme. Additional Commissioner D. Anand Kumar examined the complaints and assigned responsibility for addressing them to the concerned officials.
