This year, I stayed in a crisis house run by the charity Mind on two occasions – at the end of January/start of February and again in June. I was referred by the crisis team, the first time because my parents were going away and the second time because I was heading into crisis again. Both stays preceded hospital admissions for me, although it is meant to help to prevent admissions and it does for many others. This was a much nicer environment than hospital.
I was terrified when I first arrived at the crisis house. I was very unwell and paranoid. This place provided respite, care and support at the darkest period of my life. The staff were fantastic. I would 100% recommend this service to anyone needing it. Sometimes you just need someone to hold your hand and work through difficult emotions with you and help you to see that there is hope.
