'He can improve us': Maguire urges Man Utd to keep faith with academy graduate after surprise return
Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has thrown his support behind Marcus Rashford.
Rashford finally made his United return during the 4-2 defeat to AC Milan yesterday.
Maguire is desperate to see the 28-year-old remain at the club and rediscover the form that once made him one of United’s most dangerous attackers.
The experienced centre-back said (via The Athletic): “He can improve us for sure.
“I think you have seen when he came on (against Milan), he threatened the back line really well. He could have even scored for us today.
“He is a huge threat to have in your team, if he is going to stay with us. Obviously the transfer window is still open, but we hope as players that he stays and he’s a big asset to have.
“I’ve played with Marcus for numerous years and I know that from playing against him, and playing with him in training, he is going to help us.”
Consistent Rashford would be a blessing for United
Head coach Michael Carrick is ready to reintegrate Rashford after the forward fell out with former manager Ruben Amorim.
He spent the 2025-26 season at Barcelona and helped them win the La Liga title.
The England international dreamed of turning his loan spell into a permanent move to Camp Nou, but Barcelona ultimately refused to trigger his £26 million purchase clause.
His staggering £325,000-a-week wages have limited his options, leaving United and Rashford facing an unexpected reunion for now.
Carrick shares a good relationship with the United academy graduate, but he must be wary of Rashford’s inconsistent performances.
When firing on all cylinders, Rashford has the ability to single-handedly change the course of a game.
However, inconsistent performances and a lack of defensive intensity have prevented him from reaching the extraordinary heights once expected of him.
Maguire has every reason to be optimistic about his team-mate, but even he will understand that Rashford’s second chance at Old Trafford comes with plenty of risk.
